House Painters Cost in Launceston
How to read the table
Every row shows a low figure, a high figure, the unit, the source and a note. Most rows are per job, and the rest are per room, per door, per window or per square metre. All figures were read on 31 October 2026 from Yakka Labour, which is a national guide with a few city rows, and The Quote Yard, which publishes Tasmanian estimates, and neither is a price from a Launceston business. Yakka Labour says its figures include GST. Treat the table as a way to spot a quote that is far out of line, not as a price to expect.
What moves the price
Yakka Labour says home size, surface condition, preparation, height and paint quality set the price. Exterior prices depend more on the wall material than on floor area, because the material decides how much gets painted and how much preparation it needs. Weatherboards with flaking paint can need far more preparation than a fresh brick veneer, and older timber windows with putty and several panes are slow work. The Quote Yard says heritage properties usually attract premium pricing, which matters in a city with many older homes.
Tasmanian and national figures
The Quote Yard's Tasmanian estimates are lower than Yakka Labour's national bands for the same jobs, for example $4,500 to $9,000 against $6,000 to $12,000 for a three-bedroom interior. We cannot say why. The Quote Yard is a lead-generation site and does not show how it gets its numbers, while Yakka Labour's Hobart row is $6,000 to $11,500 and says Hobart has fewer painters and older housing stock. Use the Tasmanian rows as a lower reference and the national rows as an upper one, and ask each painter what is in the price.
Ask for a full list
Ask each business to list every room and surface, the preparation, the product, the sheen, the number of coats, who moves the furniture, the access equipment and what is excluded. Compare quotes line by line and treat a lump sum with no detail as incomplete. For an older home, ask how paint that may contain lead would be handled and whether that cost is in the quote.
